Law Enforcement Response to Weapons of Mass Destruction Operations Level
WMD Counter Terrorism Training
In Co-operation with Louisiana State University, Academy of Counter-Terrorist Education, a subdivision of the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training, a member of the National Domestic
Preparedness Consortium.Course Description: This course is designed to improve the capabilities of emergency services agencies to respond to
WMD incidents by providing operations-level training to law enforcement personnel. The primary purpose of the course is to teach law enforcement officers the appropriate action(s) at the
scene of a suspected terrorist WMD incident. Students will be taught to understand and recognize terrorism, defensive considerations (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive), and
control issues associated with WMD activity. Applicable standards and regulations outlining the core competencies at the Operations level for emergency responders will be used in modifying and
delivering this course. Law enforcement officers will be taught recognition of a WMD incident, implementing self-protection measures, securing the scene, notifying appropriate Local, State and/or
Federal authorities, and the transition phases from an emergency incident to a recovery incident. All materials required for this course are furnished through the Academy of Counter-Terrorist Education. Course Objectives:
- Identify indicators of possible weapons of mass destruction incidents and describe the effects of such weapons.
- Collect all relevant information concerning a weapon of mass destruction incident -
Including information required to coordinate, and execute an effective initial response, and the
information necessary to conduct a successful criminal investigation.
- Employ effective self-protection procedures for a weapon of mass destruction incident.
- Identify evidence associated with a weapons of mass destruction incident.
